Information Standards and Clinical Coding Standards for HSCNI to adopt, so that data can be shared and compared across the Region.

Who are we?

The Coding and Standards Team is part of the Digital Health and Care Northern Ireland (DHCNI) Team within the HSC Data Institute. Our team provides a comprehensive range of services to Health and Social Care (HSC) organisations across Northern Ireland, including:

  • Helpdesk support
  • Northern Ireland Data Dictionary
  • Develop, Review and Implement Standards & System Technical Guidance
  • Dataset Reviews
  • Reference Codes
  • Developing and publishing NI Coding Standards
  • Clinical Coding Audits
  • Clinical Coding Training for both Coders and Non-Coders

These services are designed to improve the definition, collection, clinical coding, and reporting of data that is timely, accurate, and consistent—supporting better decision-making and enhancing the quality of care across the region. The Coding & Standards team do this through collaboration with stakeholders from the Trusts, Regional Organisations and UK Counterparts.
