A series of encompass solution presentations recently attracted nearly 2,000 HSC staff across Northern Ireland.
The regional initiative will use the latest technology to introduce a digital integrated health and care record to Northern Ireland.
Hosted by Epic, the encompass functional presentations in Craigavon, Belfast and Derry/Londonderry gave staff the opportunity to see how an integrated record will work across different healthcare settings.
Over 1,700 people attended the events, with staff having to queue for one session in Belfast, such was the level of interest.
Northern Ireland’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Michael McBride, who is also the Senior Responsible Owner for encompass, welcomed a huge crowd to the first of the two Belfast sessions.
He outlined the need for transformation so that health and social care services could meet the challenges of a 21st century population, which is living longer, in a safe and sustainable way.
With the urgent need to replace a variety of ICT solutions which exist in unconnected care silos and some critical processes still being performed manually, the status quo is no longer an option, he said.
We want to see a new future in which people are supported to stay well in the first place and have access to safe, high quality care when they need it; staff are empowered and supported to perform their roles and people have access to their own health records and are supported to engage in their own care.
While I realise this will be a challenging journey for everyone, at a time when services are under immense pressures, I believe this is the right thing to do for HSCNI.
Improving the quality of care for patients
Opening the Craigavon event, Shane Devlin, chief executive of the Southern Health and Social Care Trust, said the new solution would make staff more efficient and improve the quality of care for patients.
Gary Loughran, Director of encompass, who addressed the event in Derry/Londonderry, said he was delighted with the numbers of staff who had taken time out of their busy schedules to attend.
He also stressed the need for all staff to get involved in the digital revolution.
As part of systemic transformation, you all have a role to play in designing the future solution.
With a Notice of Intention to Award a Contract issued to Epic, the team are currently working through the process of obtaining Full Business Case approval, with a contract expected to be signed in early 2020.
encompass is currently recruiting for a number of roles, including principal trainers and workflow analysts. If you’re passionate about transforming health and social care full details are available at jobs.hscni.net, closing date 31 October.
