Northern Ireland Public Data Panel Induction Day

Published:

We are delighted to announce the successful recruitment of 14 participants to the  Northern Ireland Public Data Panel (NIPDP).

The launch of NIPDP represents a significant milestone in involving the public with data-driven initiatives in Northern Ireland, allowing a diverse group of individuals to offer their insights, perspectives and expertise in shaping how data could be used for the benefit of society. The aim of the panel is to discuss transparency, trust, and accountability in data practices while fostering an inclusive approach to decision-making that incorporates the views of the public.

An Induction Day was held on Saturday, 19th October, marking the official start of the panel members’ involvement. Designed to introduce panel members to each other, the co-directors and the world of public data, the induction day also provided members with a comprehensive overview of their roles within the panel, its broader objectives and the types of impact they may have.

Panel members heard from expert speakers Simon Beattie, Senior Policy Officer, the Information Commissioners Office and Andrea Thornbury Project Manager Belfast City Council and participated in interactive, deliberative sessions exploring the data landscape and considering how members want to use NIPDP to explore public trust and public benefit in data use. Members will be co-creating NIPDP, not only what conversations and questions they would like to take up, but how the panel should operate and conduct itself.
