Artificial Intelligence Framework for HSCNI

Supporting safe, ethical and effective use of AI across Health and Social Care.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is already being used across Health and Social Care in Northern Ireland — from supporting clinical decision‑making to reducing administrative burden and improving how services are delivered.

The HSC Artificial Intelligence Framework provides a shared, practical starting point to help organisations explore and use AI safely, ethically and responsibly. It is not a policy or a strategy. Instead, it offers clear principles and guidance to support confident decision‑making, while allowing organisations to move at their own pace.

The framework:

Sets out what good looks like for AI use across HSC
Supports innovation without stifling it
Promotes safety, transparency, fairness and human oversight
Helps build public and professional trust
It is a living document that will continue to evolve as technology develops and learning is shared across the system.
