Developed in conjunction with ORCHA (Organisation for Review of Care & Health Apps), the Health and Social Care (HSC) Apps Library offers a range of applications to help you self-manage your health and well being. The library is free to access on your smart phone or PC and all the apps, which are free at the “point of use”, have been independently assessed for clinical assurance, data privacy/security and usability/accessibility and must score above 65%.
There is a wide and varied range of self-help and self-management apps in the library, including apps that can help you manage stress or anxiety or promote good sleep patterns. Others can assist with the management of long-term chronic conditions like diabetes or others apps can support you during life events such as pregnancy or breastfeeding and your child’s early years.
The HSC Apps Library has recently undergone a review and redesign and introduced some new features to help you find the right app. At a click you can view a range of Apps on Nutrition, Pregnancy & Early Years, Fitness, Mental Health, Diabetes, Sleep and Dementia; you can also use the Search Finder to look for Apps by name or by categories of conditions to help you, or assist carers and family members keep loved ones independent and improve their quality of life. You can filter based on what best suits you as a user, eg. a carer, an older adult or if you are looking for advice on looking after an infant. Alternatively, you can also filter based on the platform you wish to use, whether the app is available on iOS, Android or a Web Application.
In addition, we have recently launched two specific campaign pages to help finding information and guidance even easier. Our focus over the next few months is on Managing your Mental Health and Well-being and Staying Safe this Winter.
The winter months, with shorter and darker days, can be particularly hard on both our physical and mental health and you may find some very useful help and advice on these pages.
Adult Mental health and Well-being
A selection of carefully curated mental health and well-being apps can be found that offer valuable self-help resources and tools which can be a good source of information and advice at a time when you might need it.
You will find apps here that can help manage anxiety, depression and stress. There are also apps that provide information on relaxation techniques that can help promote good sleep which is vital to overall general well-being.
Stay Safe this Winter
Cold weather and winter bugs can affect our health, but there are things we can all do to keep well.
We’ve grouped a selection of apps to help you manage your health concerns at this time of year. Whether you are looking for an app to provide guidance to help manage breathing conditions, guidance and tips to stop smoking or help in keeping active or developing techniques to promote good sleep or even to get advice on common children’s ailments.
The library couldn’t be easier to use, either through a click or using the search finder. Do feel confident that any health and well-being app you download has been thoroughly assessed and scored by ORCHA for your peace of mind. Your health professional also has access to the library and, in the coming months may recommend apps directly to you.
