This achievement marks a significant step forward in transforming how patients access and manage their health and social care information, anytime, anywhere. My Care was developed as part of the encompass programme and it allows service users to view specific parts of their secondary medical records, for example: appointments, medications, clinical letters, all in one place.
Lynette Crooks, Interim Assistant Director for encompass, praised the patient portal:
“My Care is transforming health and social care in Northern Ireland, it is not only improving how services are delivered by staff, but empowering patients to take an active role in their own health care journey. With around 13% of the population already using My Care, service users are accessing their information in the comfort of their own home or out on the go. I would encourage everyone to sign-up for My Care, this is a truly transformative step in digital innovation, bringing the power back to the patient.”
My Care is making a huge difference for service users. Jake, who has Multiple Sclerosis (MS) said: “My Care is so useful for seeing the dates and times of my appointments so I do not forget them. Staff can message me directly about my treatment and I can see those messages as soon as they are sent. I also have access to all my information, whether it is from a consultation or a letter and I can view some of my test results. It really puts me in control of my healthcare.”
Clinicians are also impressed by the new portal, Regional Chief Clinical Information Officer and Consultant Physician, Dr. David Wilson, highlighted the benefits for patients and families: “A significant benefit for patients has been the My Care portal, allowing them to receive results and appointment letters instantly. It also improves engagement and communication. There is also the added benefit of proxy access for relatives of children or elderly patients, helping families stay informed about their loved ones’ care.”
Important information to note:
- My Care does not include primary care records (GP records or results of tests requested by your GP) or historical medical information before encompass was implemented in your Trust.
- Some test results are released automatically and some are released after your clinician has seen and acted on them. You can ask for your specialist to release results for you too.
- Social Care records are currently not available but will be added in the future.
- My Care is an evolving system. It will change and develop based on patient experience and improving technology.
· My Care will not replace traditional communication methods with your secondary care provider.
