Visitors attending this year’s Balmoral Show are being encouraged to take greater control of their health and wellbeing by signing up to My Care, the patient portal that puts health information at people’s fingertips.

The My Care team has been engaging with attendees this week, demonstrating how it can make managing your health simpler, faster and more convenient.

Suzanne Doherty, encompass Credentialed Trainer, explains how easy it is for people to get started:

“My Care is an app you can download on your phone to access some of your health records. It’s really easy to download from the App Store, just search for ‘MyChart’ and you can get started straight away. Once you confirm your identity using an nidirect account, you can begin using it immediately.”

My Care is already making a significant impact across Northern Ireland with over 320,000 people signed up. It is empowering patients to take a more active role in their healthcare journeys by giving them direct access to key information such as appointments and certain test results.

Health Minister Mike Nesbitt praised the clear benefits, sharing his own experience:

“I have a well-publicised heart condition and I go on and see my appointments, I see a lot of my results and it’s a fabulous way of empowering myself and think about my own health. I would encourage everybody to download My Care.”

For many users, one of the biggest advantages is the speed and convenience of digital access which saves valuable time waiting on appointment letters as these are delivered instantly.

The Balmoral Show, which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, has provided the perfect platform to showcase how digital innovation is transforming healthcare in Northern Ireland.

Philip McGuigan MLA, Chairperson of the Health Committee, highlighted the importance of embracing digital tools

“The Balmoral Show is excellent. There is hundreds of thousands of people here. It’s good to see My Care here. I downloaded the app, it is extremely useful to me in terms of appointment letters and interacting with the health service.”

With growing uptake and positive feedback from users, My Care is playing a key role in supporting a more modern, accessible and patient-centred health service.
