In this episode of Digital Dispatches, Raied Abdul-Karim, the encompass Programme Manager, outlines the five key pillars under which the encompass programme was implemented in South Eastern Trust and explains how lessons learned from that implementation are informing preparation for the Belfast Trust Go-Live in June.  The five pillars being the programme governance, the technical aspect, business change and training, building and testing the system and finally the post live reviews.

Raied explains how the govencompass logo, with taglineernance structure of the programme in Northern Ireland is unique compared to other implementations across the world and how that is proving challenging.  He talks about the importance of early data quality and validation in defining the scope for data migration and how coordination of the transfer from other third-party systems is key to a successful implementation.

With encompass comes a portfolio of new devices, from mobile handheld devices, (referred to as Rovers), which are used both in hospitals and in the community, to new Workstations on Wheels, and a completely new system, meaning thousands of people are being impacted.  Many are having to learn new skills and as a result training is a major aspect of the programme.  Raied says, recognising many find the change daunting and providing continued support and training to ensure everyone has the key skills and the opportunity to continue to learn is now a continuous part of the programme.

Since SET Go-Live a number of task and finish groups have been set up to progress priority issues highlighted by staff and at post live reviews.  Work plans are being developed to address the issues and help Belfast Trust in their planning.

Questions from attendees included realisation of benefits, the task and finish groups and if digital dictation voice recognition will be included in encompass in the future.

Raied closed his talk with a final message of advice, “Get engaged as early as possible with the programme and don’t look at it as an add-on because soon it will be embedded and you will not be able to do your work without it.”

Staff can contact their Trust encompass teams if they have any questions or want to get involved:
