Digital Dispatches, Episode 33: – Secondary use of Data

In the most recent episode of Digital Dispatches, Dr Frances Burns, Lead for Control of Data Processing Legislation and the Northern Ireland Trusted Research Environment (NITRE) talked about the challenges and opportunities that secondary use of data offers to improve health information systems whilst ensuring that patients data is protected.

 

Frances gives us some background information on Trusted Research environments, the different points of decision making and governance over the past 20 years that has led us to where we are now in the use of our data.  Progressing to 2020 and the necessary steps to legislation now required to establish the Northern Ireland Trusted Research Environment (NITRE).

 

Frances also explains how we utilise Health & Social Care data , the public’s understanding and engagement with the use of their data and how it impacts them, both in their receipt of care and more widely in society and how we can use Health & Social Care data to their benefit.
