At Stormont today, Health and Social Care Northern Ireland (HSCNI) showcased the innovative My Care patient portal to Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), marking a significant milestone in the digital transformation of Health and Social Care services across Northern Ireland.
My Care is a secure, free, user-friendly platform that allows users to securely access their secondary health records from any smartphone, tablet, or computer. Fully integrated with HSCNI’s nationwide electronic patient record (EPR) system, encompass, My Care allows patients and clinicians to collaborate using a shared medical record, strengthening collaboration, communication, transparency, and partnership in care.

Health Minister, Mike Nesbitt praised the portal’s potential to revolutionise healthcare delivery: “My Care is a transformative step in how we deliver health and social care services in Northern Ireland. It gives users secure, personalised access to their health information, from appointments to medications and test results, right at their fingertips. This innovation builds on the foundation laid by the encompass programme and is central to our vision of a modern, digital health service. I would encourage all MLAs to champion this initiative in their constituencies and help ensure that patients are aware of My Care.”
During the event, MLAs signed up for a My Care account, joining over 200,000 users who are already benefiting from the platform. One example includes a multiple sclerosis patient: “When I initially received my diagnosis, I was very anxious. I signed up to My Care straight away and it completely changed how I felt about my treatment. I was no longer waiting at home for letters to arrive, my appointments appeared on the app, which gave me peace of mind.”
My Care allows you to:
- View test results quickly, and at your convenience. Some results are available as soon as they’re resulted so that you can act on them right away, including flu and Covid-19 tests, INRs, and routine screenings. Others are viewable in My Care once your clinician has discussed them with you.
- Access your health summary including current and past conditions, medications, allergies, and more—as well as educational resources so you can learn more about your health.
- See future appointments and read letters from your past appointments.
Manage care for your loved ones through secure proxy access—whether for children under 18 or adults, like elderly parents, who share their records with you.
Dr Dermot Hughes, Senior Responsible Owner for encompass, highlighted the clinical benefits: “Being more deeply connected to clinical staff at other Trusts and to patients themselves, through My Care, is a significant step forward for delivering high quality care safely and keeping patients across Northern Ireland informed and engaged in their own health.”
By joining My Care, you’ll become part of a global community of more than 191 million people who use Epic’s patient experience platform to take charge of their health. Around the world, people are managing complex conditions for themselves and their loved ones, staying on top of medications and treatment plans, connecting with clinicians, and becoming true partners in care.
Paul Rice, Chief Digital Information Officer, added: “My Care represents another important step forward in delivering our Digital Health and Care Strategy in Northern Ireland. By enabling people to access their health and services digitally, we are empowering individuals and improving outcomes. I am pleased to support efforts to raise awareness of this vital tool and encourage those using our hospital services across Northern Ireland to download the App.”
My Care is free to download and easy to use.
