About encompass
A system designed and built by our people, for our people.
encompass is a Health and Social Care programme that has created a single digital care record for every citizen in Northern Ireland who receives health and social care. encompass aims to provide patients and service users with the safest, highest quality of care that is possible.
encompass was implemented in the South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust in November 2023, Belfast Health and Social Care Trust in June 2024, Northern Health and Social Care Trust in November 2024 and Southern and Western Health and Social Care Trusts in May 2025. This will create better experiences for patients, service users and staff.
encompass will give patients and service users the ability to view and update their health information online wherever and whenever they like via My Care, the patient portal. It will also make it easier for Health and Social Care staff to view important information about their patients and service users both in a clinical setting and while working in the community.
The encompass team works closely with Epic on activities to put us in the best position to move forward. This gives encompass the flexibility to design and make decisions for the needs of patients, service users and staff.
We are delighted to share that Volume.2 of the encompass yearbook is now available.
This edition reflects on the defining 12-month period from November 2024 to November 2025 – the year encompass completed a region-wide Go-Live across all five Health and Social Care Trusts and began the transition from implementation to measurable, real-world impact.
This year marked a once-in-a-generation milestone for health and social care in Northern Ireland.
The yearbook provides a focused record of how encompass matured into a region-wide system, shifting the focus from implementation to optimisation, confidence and cultural change.
Through data-driven insights alongside staff and patient testimonials, this volume demonstrates how encompass is already supporting safer, more efficient care and improving experiences for both patients and staff across the region.
